Cataracts are universal. They are the clouding of the lens in the eye that occurs naturally with aging. However, not everyone will have visual problems from their cataracts. Those that do, will require surgery which is the only treatment. Fortunately, it is a very successfully performed surgery and Dr. D’Souza will explain the procedure as well as answer any questions you may have.

Glaucoma is a group of diseases which culminates in the irreversible damage of the optic nerve, resulting in blindness. Unfortunately, it is largely a silent condition with minimal discomfort and patients may not be cognizant of visual loss until the disease is advanced. It is, therefore, imperative to be evaluated if you have been told you have suspicious nerves, a family history of glaucoma or previously been on treatment for glaucoma. Dr D’Souza will discuss all the findings at your visit and formulate a treatment plan with you.

If you are a patient over 50 years of age or have conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, a regular eye examination is recommended. These health problems can have ocular manifestations without symptoms until the later stages of the disease. Other eye diseases such as dry eye and macular degeneration can also be detected. Dr. D’Souza will perform a thorough examination and discuss her findings and any treatment if necessary.
