INTRODUCTION
Combat Club by KMI is the only life skills and self-defense academy for kids in NYC.
Established in 2010, Combat Club by KMI focuses on strengthening the mind, body, and character of children and teenagers living in NYC. Martial arts at Combat Club is not about fighting; it’s about building self-confidence, leadership, life-skills, dealing with adversity and practical self-defense and fitness. All ages (6+) and experience levels are welcome.
New York can be a really tough place to grow up and to raise children. Very few people outside of NYC can understand the unique set of challenges to kids, youth and parents face in raising healthy and resilient young adults. Our education system has left a gap and it is increasingly difficult to work and succeed in your personal lives and careers while also ensuring your kids are equipped with the skill set they need to succeed, stay healthy and defend themselves. We are here to fill that gap.

Combat Club’s Foundation Program was designed by KMI’s founder Patrick Lockton when he realized how difficult it was to raise his 4 children in NYC. Addressing your children’s vastly different needs and setting them up for success requires a village, or a team of experts. The Foundation Program is designed with advice from child behavioral psychologists, parents, teachers, self-defense and fitness experts for the purpose of building fundamental life skills, fitness and practical self-defense skills to help the next generation succeed while overcoming real-world challenges, adversity and prevent harm from everyday occurrences such as bullying, mugging, fights and drugs. In addition to these benefits, parents value the behavioral benefits associated with our program, such focus, self-discipline, self-confidence, improving low self-esteem, lack of friends and developing social skills.
Academic research is moving beyond generalized benefits and proving how martial arts can positively and lastingly affect a child’s development by training executive function and self-regulation. The goal is to get our students to Black Belt which requires focus, self-discipline and commitment. After graduating from our Foundation Program, students enter our Black Belt Program or Leadership & Character Development Program, which includes public speaking, storytelling, decision making, problem solving, executive planning & assistant instructing along with advanced self-defense and fitness techniques.

Our classes
Student classes
Based in our Tribeca studio, Combat Club’s students start at age 6 before they graduate at age 14 into our adult program. A typical class includes a rigorous, social, interactive, fun and focused warm-up followed time spent learning skills and techniques. The instructor’s “mat chat” with the students helps instill the principles and soft skills. Classes end with a game/summary drill to reinforce the technique and ensure students can defend themselves under different scenarios. Classes are social and the environment is supportive because this helps students learn and build confidence. Book in below and complete our application form.
FREE 1 WEEK TRIALFamily classes
In Combat Club’s family classes, adults and kids train at the same time so everyone learns and benefits. Class is structured to accommodate the different ages and learning levels. This allows parents and children to learn together, practice at home, and make time for class.

Our original program, designed to address the 3 types of bullying: psychological, physical, and verbal bullying including prevention strategies and conflict communication.

Try Combat Club’s Youth Education or Family Classes free for 1 week. Your first class must be an Introductory class, and then you can check out a beginners class.

Train as much as your schedule allows. We recommend 2 classes per week to maximize effort and keep the momentum, especially for our youth classes.
