Dr. Ed Pittman spent his formative years in Athens, Georgia.
After completing studies at Athens Academy and the University of Georgia, he attended the Medical College of Georgia where he was inducted into the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, and received the Merck Manual Award for Academic Excellence. Next followed a full General Surgery residency at Wake Forest University Medical Center.
Dr. Pittman was then chosen for a plastic surgery residency at the prestigious University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Upon graduation, he was appointed Assistant Professor of plastic surgery, educating upcoming plastic surgeons. Dr. Pittman has spoken at both national and international plastic surgery meetings on topics ranging from breast augmentation to cosmetic facial surgery. He has published numerous articles in the plastic surgery literature.
A dream was fulfilled when Dr. Pittman returned to Athens in 1992 and opened his own private practice. Continually striving for excellence and optimal patient care, he founded Pittman Plastic Surgery, P.C. in 2001. This provided the area with the largest state-of-the-art AAAHC certified outpatient surgery facility devoted strictly to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Pittman is described by his patients as artistic, warm, compassionate and a perfectionist. He continually strives to deliver optimal surgical results with unsurpassed patient comfort. He is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and an active member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The Georgia Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Quality medical care is of utmost importance to him. As such, Dr. Pittman has served multiple times as Chief of Surgery and President of the Medical Staff at Athens Regional Medical Center and on the Executive Committee at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Dr. Pittman’s other passion is flying. As an instrument rated private pilot, he knows the importance of careful planning and adherence to established safety measures. He carries these principles into his surgical practice. Dr. Pittman is married to Susan, an artist, and has two children, Laura, an interior designer and Andy, an architect. Dr. Pittman is an avid Georgia football fan and also enjoys traveling, boating and saltwater fishing.
